Why would I want to keep my license active?
The advantage to keeping your license active is that you will still be able to earn referral fees (the fees earned when directing a new client to an agent wherein a transaction takes place). In other words, unless your license is held by a Broker, you are forbidden by the Georgia Real Estate Commission to collect any kind of compensation in a real estate transaction.
Is there an advantage for new agents?
Absolutely. Not sure which brokerage you'd like to join or how you'd like to run your business? By transferring your license to a holding company, you have time to make those choices.
Can I still serve clients?
Beyond referring clients to other agents, you will not be able to facilitate a real estate transaction in any way, nor will you be able to represent yourself as someone who can.
